吉 祥 經 MANGALA SUTTA
rú shì wǒ wén yī shí fó zhù shě wèi zhī tuó
如 是 我 聞， 一 時，佛 住 舍 衛 祗 陀
yuán gěi gū dú jīng shě shí yǐ shēn yè yǒu yī
園 給 孤 獨 精 舍。 時 已 深 夜， 有 一
tiān shén shū shèng guāng míng biàn zhào yuán zhōng
天 神 殊 勝 光 明， 遍 照 園 中，
lái zhì fó suǒ gōng jìng lǐ bài zhàn lì yī páng
來 至 佛 所， 恭 敬 禮 拜， 站 立 一 旁，
yǐ jié bái fó yán
以 偈 白 佛 言：
Thus have I heard. At one time the Blessed One [the Buddha] was living at Savatthi, at Anathapindika’s Park in Jeta’s Grove. Then, late in the night, a certain deity of astounding beauty, lighting up the whole of Jeta’s Grove, approached the Blessed One. Having drawn near, she greeted him and stood to one side. Standing there this deity addressed the Blessed one in verse:
“zhū tiān yǔ shì rén sī wéi jí xiáng shì
諸 天 與 世 人， 思 維 吉 祥 事，
kě wàng de lì yì hé wéi zhēn jí xiáng
渴 望 得 利 益， 何 為 真 吉 祥 ？”
Many deities and humans, longing for well-being, have pondered upon blessings. Tell us what the greatest blessing is.
yuǎn lí yú chī rén qīn jìn zhì huì zhě
遠 離 愚 癡 人， 親 近 智 慧 者，
zūn jìng yǒu dé zhě cǐ zhēn shèng jí xiáng
尊 敬 有 德 者， 此 真 勝 吉 祥！
Not associate with fools, associating with the wise, expressing respect to those worthy of respect, this is the Highest Blessing!
zé lín ān shì zhù ěr tóng zuò fú yè
擇 鄰 安 適 住， 爾 同 作 福 業，
jìn xiū yú zhèng dào cǐ zhēn shèng jí xiáng
進 修 于 正 道， 此 真 勝 吉 祥！
Residing in a suitable location, good deeds performed in the past, setting oneself in the right direction; this is the Highest Blessing!
bó xué duō yì néng yán chí fó jiè lǜ
博 學 多 藝 能， 嚴 持 佛 戒 律，
shàn xiū shēn kǒu yì cǐ zhēn shèng jí xiáng
善 修 身 口 意， 此 真 勝 吉 祥 ！
Great learning and craft, well-trained in discipline, with every utterance well-spoken, this is the Highest Blessing!
zài jiā xiào fù mǔ shàn yǎng qī yǔ zǐ
在 家 孝 父 母， 善 養 妻 與 子，
cóng yè yào wú hài cǐ zhēn shèng jí xiáng
從 業 要 無 害， 此 真 勝 吉 祥！
The support of mother and father, the welfare of spouse and children, engaging in unconflicting livelihood, this is the Highest Blessing!
xué fó zhòng bù shī shǒu dù zhòng qīn juàn
學 佛 重 布 施， 首 度 眾 親 眷，
xíng wéi wú xiá cī cǐ zhēn shèng jí xiáng
行 為 無 瑕 疵， 此 真 勝 吉 祥！
Generosity Dharma practice, caring for extended family, blameless actions, this is the Highest Blessing!
yuǎn lí zhū è yè jiè jiǔ shèn zhū xíng
遠 離 諸 惡 業， 戒 酒 慎 諸 行，
měi dé jiān bù yí cǐ zhēn shèng jí xiáng
美 德 堅 不 移， 此 真 勝 吉 祥！
Ceasing and restraining from evil, abstinence from intoxicants, diligence concerning all phenomena, this is the Highest Blessing!
gōng jìng yǔ qiān ràng zhī zú cháng gǎn ēn
恭 敬 與 謙 讓， 知 足 常 感 恩，
shí shí wén jiào fǎ cǐ zhēn shèng jí xiáng
時 時 聞 教 法， 此 真 勝 吉 祥！
Patience and obedience, the seeing of recluses, timely discussion of the Dharma, this is the Highest Blessing!
rěn nài yǔ shùn cóng yuè shì zhòng shā mén
忍 耐 與 順 從， 悅 事 眾 沙 門，
qǐng shì yú zhèng fǎ cǐ zhēn shèng jí xiáng
請 示 於 正 法， 此 真 勝 吉 祥！
Patience, openness to criticism, sight of a true monk, regular discussion of the Dharma, this is the Highest Blessing!
zì zhì xiū fàn xíng tǐ jiàn sì shèng dì
自 治 修 梵 行， 體 見 四 聖 諦，
shí zhèng niè pán fǎ cǐ zhēn shèng jí xiáng
實 証 涅 槃 法， 此 真 勝 吉 祥！
Practicing austerities, practicing the Brahma-faring, perception of the Four Noble Truths, attainment of Nirvana, this is the Highest Blessing!
bā fēng xīn bù dòng wú yōu wú wū rǎn
八 風 心 不 動， 無 憂 無 污 染，
ān wěn wú fán nǎo cǐ zhēn shèng jí xiáng
安 穩 無 煩 惱， 此 真 勝 吉 祥！
With a mind unshaken, when touched by worldly conditions, sorrowless, stainless, and secure, this is the Highest Blessing!
rú shì xiū zhū xíng ér néng wú duò shī
如 是 修 諸 行， 而 能 無 墮 失，
suí chù de ān lè zhū shì xián jí xiáng
隨 處 得 安 樂， 諸 事 咸 吉 祥！
Those who have fulfilled all these, are everywhere invincible, and they find well-being everywhere, these are the Highest Blessings!
